Customs and documentation for South Africa
South African customs (SARS) is relatively efficient, but it is strict about paperwork. These are the points that matter.

- Free storage at the port is limited - typically 7-14 days before demurrage and storage charges begin
- With clean documents, clearance normally takes 3-5 working days, then 24-72 hours to your warehouse
Duty and VAT: duty rates vary by product (many electronics and machinery lines are low or free; other categories are much higher). Import VAT is 15%, levied on the customs value plus a 10% uplift plus duty.
